Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is based on innovation by reproducing data, which makes people surpass the current way of perceiving and interacting with the world. In other words, AI makes humans more adaptable and agile, having everything at one click away by enlarging the horizon and providing easy access to any information. Soon, using AI at work will be a must and a new reality for organisations.
At the organisational level, it impacts performance, increasing service quality and satisfying clients. In the HR department, AI impacts the recruitment of valuable candidates, employees’ development, and performance assessment, thus leading to modelling the organisational culture, increasing retention by identifying risk factors and improving motivation levels, administrative processes automation and documentation productions, and using virtual assistants for communication. AI can design the organisational chart, the job description, the employees’ skills, and their experience, setting strategic objectives and performance management in record time. Normally, these activities are very demanding for the management, and they require a lot of time. Many times, a lot of time is spent in meetings to generate them. In the AI era, important time is saved and redistributed to decision-making, analysis, leadership, and quick strategy adaptation to the global market, which became less predictable in a tense geopolitical context after the pandemic.
Employees in HR departments are less prone to using technology and adopting it in their work, which is quite natural since they are oriented towards human communication, personal development and interhuman relations. This is exactly what AI offers: time, the only resource that cannot be bought for caring for the people in an organisation.
Exploring the potential and benefits of AI, let’s see a few examples of activities which AI can generate: optimisation of the operational flows, quick interrogation of all clients and adapting the service to their needs, automation of the recruitment and selection process, automation of all the repetitive processes in the departments and the organisation. For This, we used Chat GPT to create a job description for recruiting an HR Manager. With one click, I’ve got the best description of an HR Manager and recommendations of candidates, which is extremely amazing and fast.
"AI makes humans more adaptable and agile, having everything at one click away by enlarging the horizon and providing easy access to any information."
The advantages of AI are permanent availability, quick and complex data analysis, and reduced human errors.
The disadvantages of AI include a lack of empathy, making redundant jobs by automating repetitive tasks, the need to access databases, online threats, data confidentiality and security, and a lack of ethics.
Even if AI offers a strategic and competitive advantage, organisations in Romania are still reluctant to adopt AI because senior managers do not have an overview of the entire potential of AI and can consider the technology as much too new and too costly for the time being. Other organisations get stuck in optimising flows and data and use too many resources during this stage, which seems insuperable. Yet, the main threat as regards AI relates to data security and confidentiality, which we, as HR representatives, understand as a duty. There is an expectation that there will be new regulations regarding AI and accessing new technologies.
